Prior to modern wastewater collection and treatment, outbreaks of Dysentary, Cholera, and others diseases were prevalent. Contact with untreated sources of wastewater by humans caused life threatening ailments. Discharges of untreated wastewater to waterways also de-graded aquatic life and served as yet another point of human contact with life ailing bacteria.
The Glenbard Wastewater Authority is committed to fulfilling its mission in Protecting Public Health and the Environment, through the proper collection and treatment of municipal wastewater. We are also committed to developing partnerships and relationships with those in our planning area that contribute to our wastewater flows through residential and business education, development of pro-active programs to reduce & eliminate SSO’s, develop programs to properly dispose of unused pharmaceuticals, and partner with our point source dischargers on the East Branch of the DuPage River to protect and revitalize the watershed.
Glenbard Wastewater Authority operates its facilities 24×7 to meet its Illinois Environmental Protection Association (IEPA) Discharge Permit. All treated wastewater that flows through the treatment facility and discharges to the East Branch of the DuPage River is regulated by this permit, known as the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit.
